The Owl’s Nest – a community preschool is off 4th Ave. We are located on the beautiful Jericho Military Site and still part of the Kitsilano Neighbourhood House family.
Saturday was our open house. The weather was spectacular, and the families that came enjoyed themselves. The children were able to play with some of the toys, decorate houses or get their faces painted by our volunteers. The best time was when our fearless leader Catherine cut the cake.
The cake was a celebration of the name changes to our programs. This is how Bumbletree came about. In the preschool room, their were tree sticks in a planter. Through out the course of the year, the sticks were decorated with crafts the children had done. It became our Christmas Tree once it had a special “top hat” and lights. In the spring, it was decorated with butterflies and flowers. At one point I had asked the children what kind of a tree it could be. One child replied “a Bumbletree”! I responded “what a great idea. We are probably the only place in the whole world who has a Bumbletree!!” Catherine was impressed by the children and the name, and decided to change the name from Childminding to Bumbletree. They have now created their own Bumbletree.
‘The Owl’s Nest’ discovery will be in the next blog.
Until the next time,
Barb
