8th & Vine

Our Collaboration With the BC Paraplegic Association Development (BCPA)
In addition to our redevelopment, KNH has agreed to work with the BCPA Housing Society on a residence at West 8th and Vine for low-income Westside seniors and people with spinal cord injuries. KNH will operate and manage 20 seniors’ units, 10 units for individuals with spinal cord injuries and a Seniors Resource Room at this site. Locating the Seniors Resource Room at 8th and Vine has made space available at 7th and Vine allowing for a 25 space daycare to be located at Kits House.
KNH will offer opportunities for the tenants at 8th and Vine to enhance our programs and services by sharing their skills and experiences.
Our Redevelopment Plans
Dear Neighbour: NOTICE OF CONSTRUCTION START – 2304 West 8th Avenue
Construction of the new Seniors Residence at 8th and Vine is about to start.
ITC Special Projects Group has been selected as the General Contractor to build the 30-unit residence, 20 units for low to moderate income seniors and 10 for people with spinal cord injuries. It will also house a new Seniors Resource Centre. Upon completion, Kits Neighbourhood House will operate the residence and the Seniors Resource Centre under a 60-year lease agreement with BC Housing.
Beginning the week of April 11th, several trees on site will be removed, a construction trailer will be installed on the southeast corner of the site itself and excavation will begin. A Site Superintendent, Curtis Macleod, will be on site throughout the construction period.
Construction completion and building occupancy is projected for April 2012.
Staging will occur along the Vine Street parking lane of the property throughout the construction period. A Street Use Permit has been obtained from the City of Vancouver Engineering Department to permit this use.
Construction activity will occur primarily along Vine Street with occasional disruption to traffic in the lane from time to time. On those occasions, one or more flag persons will provide Traffic control to ensure pedestrian and vehicular safety. We apologize in advance for any temporary inconvenience this may cause.
Trades will be advised to park several blocks from the site since neighbourhood resident and guest parking is at such a premium in the area.
