NEW Support for Shuttle Bus Service on the Westside of Vancouver

Karate:

Beginner – Advanced: Butokukan Karate trains the body and the mind with a healthy exercise program for all fitness levels.  To participate, call the instructor directly at 604-251-4718.

T’ai Chi Ch’uan (Taijiquan):
Traditional Yang Style for Beginners and Intermediates.

This class will introduce the popular Yang Style of Taijiquan, an internal art that is known for its graceful sequence of 108 postures. Characterized by slow, continuous and gentle movements, the Yang Style is ideal for practitioners of all ages and abilities.  The study of Taijiquan encompasses four central areas of study, all of which overlap and interact with each other: personal health, self-defense, philosophy and the healing of others.  Although the class will be open to, and challenging for, students who have already practiced Taijiquan, the course focus will be on providing a fun, safe and rewarding introduction to the art.

Tesshinkan Kobudo

Tesshinkan Ryu Kyu Kobudo is the study of traditional Okinawan weaponry such as the bo, sai, Tunfa, as well as other indigenous weapons from Okinawa. Enjoy this invigorating practice and meet some new friends at the same time! To participate, call the instructor directly at 604-251-4718.

UBC Law Students Legal Advice Program:

The Law Students’ Legal Advice Program (LSLAP) offers free legal services for low-income people in the Lower Mainland.  Law students, working under the guidance of supervising lawyers, provide legal expertise in a variety of areas including criminal matters, small claims, residential tenancies, WCB, CPP, employment insurance, social assistance, wills and criminal injury compensation.  LSLAP is one of British Columbia’s largest legal aid organizations.  People in need of legal assistance should make an appointment by calling 604-822-5791.

Westside Seniors Empowerment Coalition
The coalition represents seniors living on Vancouver’s Westside. It is an umbrella group of individuals, community health providers, community organizations, churches, businesses, and agencies. The mandate is to promote healthy ageing through physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. For more info, please contact Julie Wall.

Westside Food Security Collaboration – this group is made up of community organizations and community members who are affected by and interested in addressing the issue of food security on the Westside. For more information contact Catherine. Next Meeting: May 28th. 9:30-11:00am at Steeves Manor- 1985 Wallace Street.

Early Childhood Development – Network 4 – this group is made up of organizations that provide childcare, preschool, family drop-in and other ECD related programs and who are interested in working together to build the capacity of the Westside to provide high quality accessible ECD services. Youth Networking Table – The Westside Youth Networking table meets 3 times a year to share information, network & collaborate on initiatives that will support youth, those working with youth & youth leaders. Next meeting is April 23rd 1:00-2:30pm. For more information contact Catherine.
