Our Mission: Kitsilano Neighbourhood House (Kits House) creates community for all by connecting people, ideas, and opportunities.
Overview: Established in 1894, Kits House is a member of the Association of Neighbourhood Houses of BC. We offer free and low cost social services to community members. Our service area ranges from Granville to UBC, Musqueam to English Bay.
Our programs include childcare, affordable housing for seniors, youth outreach and leadership programs, parent and tot drop-in, food skills training, hot meal programs, multicultural support groups for women, and seniors’ programs. Our neighbourhood has so many great attributes and it also experiences challenges, such as isolation, an aging population, and complex social issues. Kits House plays a vital role is supporting and building our community.

Board: Kits House relies on the expertise provided by a well-rounded governance board. Kits house is currently looking for General Board Members and a Secretary.
General Board Members with expertise in one or more of the following areas:
- Issues affecting seniors, indigenous peoples, children and youth
- Fundraising and event management
- Community development and relationship building
- Human resources
- Government and public relations
- Legal and risk management
- Financial management
The secretary is a member of the Executive team. We are seeking an individual with sound judgment and strong organizational skills. Commitment to attend an executive call/meeting and one board meeting a month, in addition to other tasks or responsibilities is required.
Previous board experience is an asset, but not necessary to apply. We value diversity, and are seeking individuals with passion and expertise to contribute to Kits House and our community. We welcome applicants who are willing to commit at least 10 hours per month.
Board members attend monthly board and committee meetings, attend and support Kits House fundraising and community building events, and contribute to priority House and board projects. They are advocates for Kits House and contribute to our fundraising efforts at a level meaningful to them.
Benefits: The board and staff culture is positive and supportive. Board members have the opportunity to share expertise, gain new skills, and build relationships with other professionals and community members. Board members are recognized at our annual volunteer recognition event.
Other: Applications close April 26th. Approximate Position Start Date: June 2019, two year term. A Criminal Records check will be required.
