I moved to Kitsilano for all of obvious reasons – the ocean, the restaurants, the beaches and parks. I never expected that many of my life’s greatest milestones would happen in Kitsilano. I was married here, started my career, bought my first home and had my first child. But the greatest surprise through it all was the sense of community the neighbourhood provided. I love knowing my butcher and baker, having a friend down the street to offer advice about my garden, neighbours who brought dinner over when my son was born, a corner store where an I.O.U is still worth something, and familiar faces I see every day. I grew up in a small town and never expected to find a community in the City that was as strong, if not stronger, than the one I grew up with. It didn’t take long after living here to know that I was definitely home.
