Fruit & Veggie Deal
What’s the deal?
Fresh produce ordered directly from a local wholesaler, North-West Produce, on the 3rd week of every month and delivered to Steeves Manor, 1985 Wallace St. This produce is then divided up into small or large boxes that are then picked up by our customers on the 3rd Thursday of the month, from 1 to 4 pm.
This is a community program available to any community member, and hosted by Steeves Manor. This program is run solely by volunteers and is supported by a number of community organizations and sponsors:
- Vancouver Coastal Health (Pacific Spirit Community Health Centre)
- Reach Community Health Centre
- Kitsilano Neighbourhood House
- Westside Food Security Collaborative
- Gandy’s Home Hardware
- Staples Business Depot
- Superstore
- Private Individuals
Why such a good deal? Our story, by Sally Speers & Ann Hall
We created the Fruit & Veggie Deal as the result of the Good Food Box going downhill. It was in 2004 that the two depot coordinators and the assistant got together and decided a change needed to happen. Our customers supported the change 100%. We have a team of dedicated volunteers who help pack and get the boxes out each month as well as the loyal customers who have ordered over the years. One of the reasons that we started this service is so that people wouldn’t spend their last dollar on food. We are 100% volunteer-driven and therefore we are able to provide the service at a wholesale cost.
How do I get the deal?
There are two ways of putting in an order to get the deal:

Orders and payments are due by the first Friday of the month. Payment must be in cash and dropped off at Steeves Manor, 1985 Wallace St.
