Cultural Arts Workshops - 2010
*** Thank you to funding provided by New Horizons for Seniors***
The vision for this amazing project came from a group of seniors that provided leadership and direction and each played an important role in the planning and implementation of the Cultural Arts Workshops. More than 500 participants were involved in this project which touched people of all ages, races and backgrounds and will be remembered for years to come.
For a period of one year, seniors from the Westside of Vancouver participated in eight workshops, four cultural celebrations and a multicultural community quilt project.
The project provided seniors with an opportunity to gather together to learn, share and celebrate because they believe that these kinds of activities create welcoming and inclusive communities that strive to make people feel welcome.
It has been our experience through this project that seniors in general are passionate learners of other cultures, and this project was a tremendous benefit in empowering seniors to embrace their passion and provide a wide range of diverse activities that the community as a whole benefited from.
Kits House Seniors Advisory Committee is committed to strengthening our neighbourhood through leadership, collaboration and opportunity, and they worked hard to achieve the outcomes of this project and ensure its success.
A quote from a senior, “I love the comrade, the friendship and the caring atmosphere that was a part of the Cultural Workshops.”
