August may be half-over, but it doesn’t mean there isn’t time to still do things with the family! Here are just a few of the things you can do before school starts.

1. Bask in the sun at Kits Fest

Come celebrate in this sports and healthy living community festival and drop by the Kids Zone where there will be face-painting, obstacle courses, timed fitness activities, and other programs for the family.

2. Bike/Walk/Run along the Arbutus Greenway

Previously a train track route, it has since been paved over and is great for a bike ride around the neighbourhood.

3. Meet other families at a free outdoor drop-in program

Kits in the Park is a free outdoor drop-in program for families and caregivers with children ages 0-6 years old. Meet other families, connect with your community and have lots of fun with outdoor circle activities, arts and crafts, and more!

4. Take a dip at the Kisilano Outdoor Pool

Take a break from the heat and take a dip in Kitsilano’s own outdoor pool. Featuring a salt water pool and 2 slides, this is fun for the whole family!

5. Taste some delicious chili

Be a judge for Laura Lee’s Chili Cook Off Contest! Perfect for all ages, come for a free bowl of chili (or until the pots are empty) and help them crown the winner!

6. Get in shape with free yoga

Free to the public, these yoga classes are at Kits Beach and are available to everyone of all ages and levels.

7. Get creative at the Art Drop-in

Come & bring your own art to work on or have fun with our materials, and/or come share some tips, tricks, tools & techniques.

8. Play a round of volleyball

Join your fellow neighours in playing a round or two of volleyball. Volleyball net, volleyballs, beach balls as well as light snacks and refreshments will be provided.

9. Make a cozy bee house

Learn more about local native bees and the importance they have on our ecosystem. Free for all ages, this workshop will teach you how to make a bee house that you can take home! Materials will be provided, but if you have extra empty tin cans or large pop bottles, please feel free to bring them!

11. Watch a free outdoor movie – Sing!

Watch the free outdoor movie, Sing, right in your neighbourhood! Festivities will start with a photo booth, concession stand, and local merchant prizes. Musical entertainers, a special pre-show performance by Will Stroet and the Backyard Band will also be featured before the show. The movie will begin at dusk (approximately 8:15pm). Feel free to bring along chairs/blankets to enjoy the movie!
