Our Coordinator of Volunteers Faith G. nominated our very own Bernie Minkus for the Vancouver Quadra Hidden Heroes award, and she won! Check out Faiths nomination below:

“I would like to nominate Bernie Minkus for the Vancouver Quadra Hidden Heroes Award!

Bernie Minkus is a resident of Vancouver Quadra and a long time Kitsilano Neighbourhood House volunteer.  In the past year Bernie has contributed 250 volunteer hours (July 2016 through July 2017).

Bernie is in the kitchen every Tuesday as a key member of the team who preps and cooks lunch for the seniors who attend the Tuesday Drop in here at Kits House. Cooking a nutritious home cooked meal from scratch for such a large number of participants also means a big clean up of the kitchen afterwards. Bernie never complains, she is there every week, just rolls her sleeves up and get the job done! She also comes in to KNH to bake, providing home made cookies and goodies for many of the KNH programs.

I personally appreciate Bernie’s help with me in the community programs. Food plays an important role in many of the Kits House programs. Bernie almost always steps up to take on the hospitality role if I am hosting a committee meeting or an event. She prepares a selection of attractive food trays and then clears away and looks after all the dishes. This means I do not have to spend time after meetings/events to clean up — I get to go home to my family!

Bernie is my hidden hero of Vancouver Quadra. She is one of Kits House most valuable volunteers!”

Congratulation to Bernie for being our hidden hero!
