When it comes to Black Canadian History, what do you know?

Every February, we celebrate Black History Month, recognizing the significant contributions of the Black Canadian community in shaping the heritage and identity of Canada.

This year, the theme for Black History Month 2024 is: “Black Excellence: A Heritage to Celebrate; a Future to Build” (Government of Canada), inviting us to celebrate and reflect on the rich innovations and contributions of Black people in Canada while aspiring to explore new opportunities for the future.

Furthermore, we are commemorating the 10th year of the International Decade for People of African Descent, as advocated by the UN, which underscores the importance of promoting and protecting the human rights of people of African descent.

At Neighborhood House, Black History Month is a time for reflection and continuous learning.

As you explore the resources we’ve shared from previous years and discover new ones this year, we’re excited to provide more opportunities for learning about local Black history and stories.
