Help Learning and Belonging

Grow at Kits House

At Kitsilano Neighbourhood House, our childcare approach values children as curious, capable, and active members of their community. Through play, relationships, exploration, and everyday moments of discovery, children and educators learn together in environments grounded in belonging, collaboration, and reflection.

On this page, you can learn more about the approach that guides our work and the important role pedagogical support plays in helping our educators reflect and grow.

Our Approach

Our highly qualified staff provide a Reggio Emilia inspired approach to learning through their positive image of the child, an understanding of the value of play, commitment to collaboration and dedication to an inclusive learning environment.

Our educators incorporate this approach into their work through a positive image of the child, an understanding of the value of play, a commitment to collaboration, and a dedication to creating an inclusive learning environment.

As a community hub, Kits House recognizes its children as current members of the community who offer their own set of special skills and rights.

Bringing Quality Childcare to Life at Kits House

Bringing Quality Childcare to Life at Kits House

A safe environment, qualified educators, and daily routines are the foundation of quality childcare. But these aspects are only part of the picture. At Kitsilano Neighbourhood House, our approach to early childhood education builds on that foundation by fostering...

Inspiring Reflection and Growth

One way Kits House brings this approach to life is by creating ongoing opportunities for educators to learn, reflect, and grow in their practice.

Over the past year, a pedagogist has worked alongside educators across our childcare programs. A pedagogist creates opportunities for educators to reflect on their practice, revisit observations, explore questions, and develop curriculum alongside children.

Across British Columbia, educators working with pedagogists have described stronger professional confidence, deeper practice, renewed curiosity, and greater appreciation for the complexity and value of their work.

Support Quality Childcare at Kits House

This work isn’t funded through childcare fees alone. While pedagogical support is recognized as an important part of the BC Early Learning Framework, there is no dedicated funding to provide it.

Community support helps bridge that gap by ensuring educators have ongoing opportunities to learn, reflect, and grow, strengthening the learning experiences we create with children every day.

When educators have the time and support to deepen their practice, children benefit through more thoughtful, responsive early learning. Your support helps make that possible.
