Community Programmer – Choose to Move Facilitator

You will bring your vast senior’s programming and facilitation skills for this rewarding role. You will be joining a dedicated team with a desire to build a stronger community. This position works collaboratively and under the general direction of the Program Coordinator and plays a key role in implementing and delivering the Choose to Move program. This role is also actively engaged in planning, developing and evaluating the program.

Choose to Move is a 3-month evidence-based program. It is flexibly designed to motivate and support older adults (65+) who are not regularly active to integrate physical activity into their daily routines. The program is choice-based meaning participants will choose activities that make sense for their lifestyle and are available in their community. Your role as a facilitator is to work together with the participants on creating a personal action plan customized to the individuals needs and goals. Throughout the program you will continue to support the participants during weekly group sessions to reach their goals and make adjustments where needed

The main tasks are performed in-house with some scope to work from home as it is a hands-on leadership role.

Key Responsibilities/Purpose

Working collaboratively with the Seniors Program Coordinator you will be responsible for the delivery of the Choose to Move program. Choose to Move is a new program at Kits House in collaboration with the Active Aging Society. The program aims to promote active, connected lives and the ability to age in place – in community.

  • Provide a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment for seniors/older adults
  • Engage and encourage a diverse group of seniors to participate in programming
  • Support seniors in accessing social, economic, recreational and educational services and resources in the community
  • Write program reports, collect statistics and keep other program related documentations in order
  • Encourage and support volunteers/contractors with program facilitation
  • Develop personalized action plans
  • Facilitate one on one sessions
  • Facilitate group discussions around health related topics

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1-year experience working with Seniors
  • Good understanding of senior’s issues and how to work with barriers faced by older adults, with 2 years’ experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and practicum.
  • Proven ability to work independently, conduct outreach, facilitate groups and supervise volunteers
  • Experience working from a strength-based model of service delivery
  • Excellent listening, written, verbal and cross-cultural communication skills
  • Great team player, with effective interpersonal skills and the ability to take initiatives and adapt/change priorities according to changing situations.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access)
  • Clean Criminal Record Check and First Aid (Valid or willingness to obtain)
  • Attitudes and values which are compatible with the goals and philosophy of Kitsilano Neighbourhood House

Working Conditions

  • Ability to work flexible hours
  • Ability to work from multiple sites

Job details: 10 months fixed term position till the end of 2022, with the possibility to extend.
Wages:
$20.27 – $22.64 Salary Band 7 of the ANHBC Wage Grid
Schedule:
10 hours/week; start date as soon as possible
